TELEGRAPH SKI AND SNOWBOARD - The Italian Job


Standing at the mouth of the Alpe di Fanes, a completely untracked valley in the very heart of the Dolomites national park, I paused to take in the beauty of the surrounding plateau.

The Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, are breathtaking at the best of times, but leave the marked trails behind for a backcountry ski tour from hut to hut, and the wow factor is off the charts. It was the end of February and we were on a three-day trip across the Fanes-Senes-Braies park, in the very heart of the Dolomites.
