Visit Cimabanche Pass

Passo Cimabanche, or Cimabanche Pass, is the road that crosses over this mountain pass leads from Cortina d’Ampezzo to Dobbiaco in Val Pusteria. The pass itself is strategically located between Mount Cristallo in the south and the Croda Rossa d'Ampezzo mountain in the north. It may be small and unassuming, but the Cimabanche Pass more than makes up for it with personality, location, and incredible views. In addition to the magnificent surrounding mountain ranges, located just a few meters south of the pass are two small mountain lakes – Black Lake to the west and White Lake to the east. As with other locations in the area, Cimabanche Pass was also a part of many WWI battles.  Today the area is assigned to the 6th Alpine Regiment and still serves as a training location.  In addition to the pass’s intriguing history, its location is also prime for those seeking access from Val Pusteria and is known for the fantastic alpine skiing available there. There are also cross-country ski tracks to tackle and during the warmer months, the area is a favorite of cycling enthusiasts.
