Days 5-6 ~ Skiing in Lech, Austria
You have arrived in a brand new ski area, and once again there is so much to explore!  Set out each day with your guide, exploring new lifts, new vistas, new terrain, and new mountainside dining options. Lech is part of the Arlberg Ski resort comprising five charming and uniquely different alpine villages with 84 cable cars and chairlifts providing access to 280 kilometers (173 miles) of marked ski slopes. Famous for off-piste, it also has an astounding 180 kilometers (111 miles) of deep-snow runs. Arlberg resorts include Lech, St. Anton, Zürs, St. Christoph, and Stuben; you’ll set out from Lech each day, and explore the surrounding resorts and villages.  Like many ski resorts in Austria, Lech and Zürs came to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s with the popularization of skiing, and the realization that it could transform what had previously been poor farming villages in the mountains. Lech now has a permanent population of just under 1,500. But it has kept its expansion within bounds, and has not lost the charm that has led to its popularity. At 1,444 meters (4,738') elevation, the idyllic, romantic village provides access to a varied and wide-ranging ski area and is packed with first class restaurants. Lech was named “World gourmet village” by the Falstaff Gourmet Guide, and is the place in Austria with the highest density of Gault Millau toque rated restaurants per inhabitant anywhere in Europe. Each evening, once again you’ll have a plethora or gourmet dining experiences.

You’ll certainly be getting a feel for just how enormous the Alps are now! St. Moritz is a charming ski resort town, and is a popular destination of the upper class and international jet set. Located in Switzerland’s Engadine Valley, the Piz Bernina, the highest summit in the Eastern Alps, lies just a few kilometers/miles south of the town. St. Moritz was host to the Winter Olympics in 1928 and 1948. When you arrive, check into your luxury hotel, and enjoy a gourmet Swiss meal, St. Moritz style!
