6 Dolomites Winter Ski and Snowboard Races Not to Miss

FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
This incredible ski celebration is set to take place from the 20th of February to the 20th of March, 2013 in Val di Fiemme. Championship events expected to take place during the month-long celebration include the three disciplines of Nordic skiing – cross-country, ski jumping and Nordic combined, which is a combination of both cross-country skiing and ski jumping. This will be the third time these exciting events will take place in the Dolomites since 1991.

Granfondo Dobbiaco-Cortina
The Granfondo Dobbiaco-Cortina is an international 42 kilometer cross country skiing race that runs from Dobbiaco to Cortina. This event takes place every year on the first Sunday of February, which for the 2013 winter season falls on February 3rd. Tens of thousands of skiers are expected to compete, making it quite an experience for both the participants and the spectators.

Gardenissima
Gardenissima holds the title of the longest giant slalom of the Dolomites. It takes place annually on the ski runs of the Seceda Mountain in Val Gardena. Both professional and amateur skiers get to show off their skills on an impressive altitude difference of 1,033 m, a length of 6 km and a total of 88 gates. Visitors and spectators can revel in the racing and also enjoy a number of other activities and events, both before and after the race, including a spectacular awards ceremony. There’s even a special challenge that combines the Gardenissima with the Val Gardena Star Bike, a marathon that features a distance of 42 km and an altitude difference of 1,150 m. The Gardenissima is set to take place on April 1, 2013. You won’t want to miss it!

WiFIS World Cup Val Gardena - Saslong Classic
Each year in December, the amazing World Cup skiing event takes place in the beautiful Val Gardena area of the Dolomite Mountains. Watch your favorite skiers as they compete in the challenging Men’s Super G, scheduled for December 18th 2016, and the Men’s Downhill challenge on the legendary Saslong run with its camel-backed slopes and the Ciaslat pasture, scheduled for the following day on December 19th. Following the excitement of these world-class races, spectators can also participate in a number of other scheduled social events, from parties to shows and even a “Fan Club Parade”.

FIS SKI WORLD CUP ALTA BADIA "GRAN RISA"

With a vertical drop of 448 m (1469ft) on a 1255 m (4117ft) length and a maximum slope of 53%, the Gran Risa slope in La Villa is considered as one of the most beautiful slopes in the Ski World Cup.

The breathtaking descent in the forest begins just below the bifurcation of the black and red slopes of Piz La Ila. After the steep slope at the beginning a rapid curve leads on a steep, narrow channel. After a second change of direction the slope ends up to the finish.

FIS World Cup Women’s Skiing: Cortina Classic

Women’s Super G and Downhill Races
This winter season, on January 23th and 24th, 2016, the world's top female skiers will return to the slopes of Cortina d'Ampezzo for the FIS Women's Alpine Skiing World Cup, an event that is widely considered to be the most glamorous in skiing. The event features challenging downhill, Super G and Giant Slalom competitions. Participants travel from all over the world to compete for separate awards in each individual discipline, and, of course, the title of Alpine World Cup Overall Champion.

FIS World Cup Snowboard
During this joint event, both men and women compete for the coveted title of World Cup Snowboard Champion. The participants are among the best of the best of race boarders in the world. The competition begins on the Pra di Tori slope in Carezza, where racers will battle for victory in a parallel giant slalom on Dec 21, 2012, and parallel slalom on Dec 22, 2012.
