OVERVIEW

Is an on-piste ski safari an oxymoron? We don’t think so! In the Dolomites, it is possible for on-piste skiers and families to ski from hut-to-hut – entirely on groomed, lift-served runs!

On our On-Piste Inn-to-Inn Ski Safari, you’ll enjoy skiing on the Dolomiti Superski network of 12 resorts, with over 1,500m / 5,000 vertical feet of skiable terrain! You’ll ski from valley to valley each day, traveling on groomed on-piste slopes throughout, and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of a different rifugio or hotel each night. This tour also provides you with the opportunity to explore the Ladin valleys of the Dolomites and their people, discover the traditions and history of these places that integrate the Ladin, Italian, and Austrian cultures, and explore the excellent cuisine!

Not only you will enjoy incredible Italian resort skiing, but you’ll discover the breath-taking beauty of the Dolomites, and see so much more than if you stayed at a resort at the base of the mountain. We can’t think of a better way to enjoy on-piste resort skiing!

CLIENT FEEDBACK

“We arranged a ski safari trip with Dolomite Mountains and it was great from the time we stepped foot in Italy until we returned home…” – Michael / USA, December 2010

Day by Day

Ski from hut-to-hut entirely on groomed, lift-served runs! Explore the Dolomites on skis, moving from hut-to-hut each night, taking in different vistas, marvellous cuisine, and skiing the Dolomites world-class on-piste terrain.

Day 1 ~ Arrive in Alta Badia, Dolomites
Arrive in Alta Badia on your own (private transfer available on request) and check into your hotel. Dinner at the hotel.
B,D… Hotel in Alta Badia (3-Star)

Day 2 ~ Sellaronda Ski Tour
Meet your UIAGM/IFMGA professional ski guide for a trip briefing and equipment check (and rent gear if needed), and pick up your week long Dolomiti Superskipass. The Sellaronda Ski Tour is one of the most fantastic spectacular ski tours in the world, circumnavigating the Sella Massif. Considered somewhat of a “merry-go-round” for intermediate level skiers, this unique circular connection of lifts and runs was once the only way the ancient inhabitants of the Ladin villages could maintain a connection with each other. Nowadays it’s a modern day carousel that connects four Dolomite passes and four Ladin valleys (Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Val di Fassa, and Arabba).

Day 3 ~ Ski to the Marmolada Glacier
Ski towards the town of Arabba, and ski to the Marmolada Glacier. Known as the “Queen of the Dolomites,” Marmolada (3,350m / 10,990') is the highest peak and the only glacier in these mountains. You will get our full share of stunning views all around you, including the Catinaccio, Sassolungo, Sella, Marmolada, and Gran Vernel.
B,D… Rifugio

Day 4 ~  Cinque Torri and Lagazuoi Ski area
In Winter the ski slopes of the Lagazuoi, Cinque Torri and Giau area are always perfect, thanks to the favourable exposure and to the use of artificial snow programmes when necessary. The slopes are easy or moderate, and all are immensely satisfying. Facing the Lagazuoi Massif, the Gallina Ridge is a paradise for children, with slopes that are also suitable for beginners. The area is part of the Superski Dolomiti territory, and is linked to slopes of the neighbouring areas and valleys by the handy skibus and coach services.

Day 5 ~ Departure

Accommodation

Want to learn more about our Hotels and B&Bs?
The Dolomites has a multi-faceted culture and history that is reflected in each village we visit, and we make sure to provide you with the most authentic experience of the region possible through the hotels and B&Bs we offer. Hotels and chalets are available in the larger villages, while agriturismos (working farms with accommodations similar to B&Bs) are more common in rural areas. And we always make sure you have access to inspired regional cuisine, and the best panoramas you can get in the Dolomites!

You can also book a custom departure of this trip using our Luxury Hotels. For details, please contact us.

Want to learn more about our Mountain Inns & Rifugi?
Rifugi – or mountain huts in English – are the classic accommodation for hikers, climbers, mountaineers, and ski mountaineers in the Alps. Set in spectacular locations high in the Dolomites, rifugi are accessible only on foot (with a few exceptions that are reachable by car). These marvelous establishments are open primarily in the summer, with a select few in winter, and offer meals and sleeping facilities.

The Dolomite rifugi are considered the best in the Alps. While some are dormitory style with bunk beds, many meet the standard of a simple guest house with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and each has its own unique character and charm. Bedding and linens are provided, hot showers are available, and meals are served in common dining areas – like a small mountain inn set high in the mountains with the most incredible vistas in the Dolomites. Whether you’re hiking in summer or skiing in winter, an overnight rifugio stay is not to miss on a Dolomite holiday.

To learn more about rifugi in the Dolomites, check out our Rifugios in the Dolomites article, and learn about one of the best ways to experience these incredible mountains!
