Hiking Getaway in Sexten & Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Explore the Eastern Dolomites' most iconic landscapes on this five-day hiking adventure from Sesto/Sexten. You'll trek through pristine Val Fiscalina, summit Croda Fiscalina, and circle the legendary Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Enjoy two nights in rifugios, expert guidance and fantastic views.

Trip Overview

This five-day hiking journey takes you deep into the Eastern Dolomites, where the legendary Tre Cime di Lavaredo rise like three massive stone fingers against the sky. It's the kind of adventure that makes you understand why people return to the Dolomites year after year.
Based in the alpine village of Sesto, you'll explore terrain that ranges from serene valley floors to high-altitude ridgelines that have inspired photographers, poets, and mountain lovers for generations.
Your adventure begins in Val Fiscalina, where wide meadows stretch beneath the sharp limestone towers of the Sexten Dolomites, shifting from emerald green in early summer to gold as autumn approaches. You’ll ascend the Croda Fiscalina. At 2,677m / 8,783', the summit has one of the most beautiful panoramas in the region with jagged peaks extending in every direction, and with the Tre Cime's unmistakable profile dominating the horizon. The Tre Cime themselves need little introduction. These three towers are among the most recognized peaks in the world. You'll circle them on classic trails that weave through scree fields, past small alpine lakes, and beneath walls that glow pink and orange in the changing light.
At the rifugios, you'll share your journey with hikers from around the world, enjoy hearty South Tyrolean cuisine like the famous speck platters, homemade pasta, canederli in broth, and apple strudel. On your final day, you’ll have a choice to complete the full circuit with a longer descent through Val Sasso Vecchio, or take a shorter route that still captures the essential beauty of the area. Either way, you'll move through high alpine terrain down through dwarf pine, then into larch forests and eventually back to the valley meadows near Sesto.
In just five days, you'll experience the raw geology, the rifugio culture, and the play of light on the limestone, which makes the Eastern Dolomites so incredible.

Want to learn more about our Mountain Inns & Rifugios?

Rifugios – or mountain huts in English – are the classic accommodation for hikers, climbers, mountaineers, and ski mountaineers in the Alps. Set in spectacular locations high in the Dolomites, rifugios are accessible only on foot (with a few exceptions that are reachable by car). These marvelous establishments are open primarily in the summer, with a select few in winter, and offer meals and sleeping facilities. The Dolomite rifugios are considered the best in the Alps. While some are dormitory style with bunk beds, many meet the standard of a simple guest house with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and each has its own unique character and charm. Bedding and linens are provided, hot showers are available, and meals are served in common dining areas – like a small mountain inn set high in the mountains with the most incredible vistas in the Dolomites. Whether you’re hiking in summer or skiing in winter, an overnight rifugio stay is not to miss on a Dolomite holiday.
