Dolomites Ice Climbing

The Ice Climbing Experience

Prepare for the ice climbing adventure of a lifetime! Ice climbing is an unforgettable and very rewarding experience, and the Dolomite valleys hide icy streams and routes for all levels!

Trip Overview

Ice climbing has undergone an incredible evolution in recent years due to the technical progress of materials and the particular weather conditions we are experiencing. Ice climbing can only be practiced during short periods, and the conditions are always different. Due to its ephemeral nature, ice can be variable, compact, or very brittle, depending mainly on temperature. Unlike rock, ice is very changeable, even within the same day. Weather conditions and how they affect ice flows should be carefully assessed. It is wrong to consider ice climbing safe on very cold days as the ice is dry and brittle. Equally dangerous is if the ice is wet due to its poor cohesion.
For this reason, it’s mandatory to practice ice climbing only with a UIAGM/IFMGA Professional Mountain Guide. Ice climbing is an unforgettable and very rewarding experience, and the Dolomite valleys hide icy streams and routes for all levels!
