Lake Garda

Lake Garda Hiking Adventure

Experience the best of northern Italy on a seven-day gourmet hiking adventure above Lake Garda. Based in Riva del Garda, you'll hike historic trails with sweeping views over vivid blue water, explore the medieval villages of Limone and Malcesine by private boat, and taste the region's olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and wine.

Trip Overview

The mountains above Lake Garda's northern shore offer some very rewarding and moderate hiking experiences. The Prealpi Gardesane rise steeply from the water, creating a diverse landscape lush with Mediterranean olive groves and citrus trees at the shore and pine forests and mountain meadows higher up.

This seven-day itinerary is built around a single, elegant base. You'll stay six nights in a 4-star hotel in Riva del Garda, on the northern side of Lake Garda. Each morning, a private transfer takes you to a different trailhead. You'll hike the legendary Ponale path, carved into the cliff face above the lake; circle the jewel-like Lago di Tenno; and climb to Punta Larici for views that stretch from Monte Baldo to the southern tip of the lake. One day is reserved for a private boat excursion to Malcesine and Limone, where medieval castles and the famous limonaie line the shore.

The experience is as much about taste as terrain. You'll visit a balsamic vinegar producer for a guided tour and dinner and a guided tour and a local estate for wine and olive oil tasting. The climate is milder than the high Alps, allowing olive orchards and vineyards to thrive at the foot of the same cliffs you climb. This longer season, April through October, means you can hike when the high Dolomites are still locked in snow or already closing for autumn.
