Mountain Bike Traverse in the Dolomites

Join Dolomite Mountains on our guided seven-day, thrilling MTB adventure. This challenging traverse links Alta Badia, Plan de Corones, Prato Piazza, and the Cinque Torri, mixing hotel comfort with classic mountain rifugios. Come for the terrain but stay for everything else!

Trip Overview

This Dolomites mountain bike traverse promises seven guided days of exceptional cycling and breathtaking views. It’s a challenging point-to-point traverse from Alta Badia to Cortina d'Ampezzo and back, moving through some of the most varied terrain in the Alps.

You start in Alta Badia, the cultural and geographic heart of these mountains, where Ladin, German, and Italian traditions meet in the architecture, the food, and the street signs. You’ll climb through the Armentara Meadows and drop into San Vigilio before tackling Plan de Corones – Kronplatz, with its spectacular 360-degree panorama.

Next, you’ll bike deep into the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park with possible sightings of chamois grazing the high pastures and the Croda Rossa overhead. From there, a fast downhill run brings you to the little emerald-green Lago Ghedina and the pretty town of Cortina d'Ampezzo, before the afternoon climb into the Cinque Torri (Five Towers) area. The stone towers are extraordinary, and so is the open-air WWI museum at your rifugio, with preserved trenches and artillery positions.

The final riding day crosses two iconic passes and ascends the Pralongià High Plateau, where views stretch from the Marmolada Glacier, “Queen of the Dolomites,” all the way to the Tofane. From there, one last descent brings you back into Alta Badia. You’ll enjoy six nights of excellent accommodations in village hotels and two cozy nights in authentic mountain rifugios. Add mouth-watering traditional cuisine and warm alpine hospitality, and we think you’ll find it very hard to leave!

Want to learn more about our Mountain Inns & Rifugi?
Rifugi – or mountain huts in English – are the classic accommodation for hikers, climbers, mountaineers, and ski mountaineers in the Alps. Set in spectacular locations high in the Dolomites, rifugi are accessible only on foot (with a few exceptions that are reachable by car). These marvelous establishments are open primarily in the summer, with a select few in winter, and offer meals and sleeping facilities.

The Dolomite rifugi are considered the best in the Alps. While some are dormitory style with bunk beds, many meet the standard of a simple guest house with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and each has its own unique character and charm. Bedding and linens are provided, hot showers are available, and meals are served in common dining areas – like a small mountain inn set high in the mountains with the most incredible vistas in the Dolomites. Whether you’re hiking in summer or skiing in winter, an overnight rifugio stay is not to miss on a Dolomite holiday.

Only MTB and E-Bike Itineraries

Please note: You can use a mountain bike OR an e-bike for ALL our Biking Itineraries. The choice is yours!

Why E-Bike in the Dolomite Mountains?

Always wanted to mountain bike in the Dolomites, but not sure you’re up to the challenge? Then why not try e-biking! E-bikes – or electric-bikes – look like, pedal like, and handle like regular bicycles, but they have a re-chargeable electric motor to help you out. You just set your e-bike on the amount of assistance you want – from a little to a lot, pedal just like you would on a regular bike, and off you go! And imagine your uphill rides being just as relaxed as your downhill ones; on an e-bike, you can go further and explore more terrain that you might be able to on your own.
