A Taste of South Tyrol: Hike, Bike, Explore & Savor!

Seven days of hiking, biking, and eating your way through South Tyrol, from the Ladin valleys of Alta Badia to the Austrian border at Lienz, with Michelin-starred dinners, cheese and beer pairings in a WWII bunker, and a pastry workshop along the way.

Trip Overview

This is a journey built around a simple idea: that some of the best food in Italy is in the mountains, where Italian, Austrian, and Ladin traditions have been cooking side by side for centuries, and where the ingredients - herbs from private gardens, cheese from alpine dairies, and wine from vines grown at altitude - speak for themselves.

You'll begin in San Cassiano, in Alta Badia, where street signs appear in three languages, and enjoy a degustation dinner that sets the tone for the week. From there, you'll hike the Pralongia High Plateau with Marmolada on the horizon, follow the pilgrimage trail to the Santa Croce Sanctuary, and climb Plan de Corones for a 360-degree view that stretches from the Lienz Dolomites in Austria to the Ortler Group on the Swiss border. At the summit, you'll have lunch at a renowned restaurant, where a Michelin-starred chef cooks ingredients entirely from local mountain farms.

The middle of the week belongs to tastings. You'll pair Alpine cheeses with craft beers inside a natural stone bunker, a relic of WWII, guided by a fromager and cicerone. You'll visit a fruit factory that makes organic jams and syrups without artificial additives and a famous sweet factory in Austria where you'll make your own wafers. You'll cycle from San Candido across the border to Lienz on a flat, family-friendly cycle path along the Drava River, returning by train.

Throughout the trip, you'll stay in four-star hotels selected for their character - from a family-run property in San Cassiano to a superior hotel in San Vigilio di Marebbe - with private transfers, English-speaking guides, and cable-car tickets handled for you.

From the Ladin valleys to the Austrian border, this is South Tyrol at its most delicious. Contact our team to plan your Taste of South Tyrol.
