First-Class Dolomites Active Family Adventure

Arrive in Alta Badia on your own (private transfer by taxi / helicopter available on request) and check into your accommodation.

Located in a large valley surrounded all around by the gorgeous peaks of the Dolomites, Alta Badia is truly the “heart of the Dolomites.” Geographically in the South Tyrol (Südtirol), this area was part of Austria prior to the First World War. Here you’ll find unique mountain scenery with villages rich in natural beauties and ancient traditions, witness the simple everyday life of the local people (the “Ladini”), as well as the customs and traditions of the ancient Ladin culture.

In the morning you will meet your UIAGM/IFMGA Professional Mountain Guide for a trip briefing and orientation, and to check the equipment necessary for your exciting days in the Dolomites.    

Spend the day on the Pralongia High Plateau. It is possible to ascend/descend the Pralongia Plateau on foot, or with the help of a cable car from San Cassiano, depending on your energy level. This area is surrounded by mountains including the Marmolada (3,343m /10,964'), the Queen of the Dolomites, the highest peak in the Dolomites and home to its largest remaining glacier. Once on the Plateau, there are plenty of rifugios (mountain inns) where you can enjoy the panorama and have lunch and a good glass of wine.

Before you descend by cablecar, let you kids go wild at one of the playgrounds located by the two cablecar stations on the Pralongia' plateau. Rope swings, bouncy mattress, slack-lines, climbing zone, the choice is endless!

In the morning take a private transfer to Passo Falzarego.
During the First World War, the Lagazuoi - Cinque Torri area was the scene of severe fighting between Alpini (Italian Mountain Troops) and the Kaiserjäger (Austrian Alpine Troops). In order to maneuver through these vertical mountains, troops dug tunnels and set up a system of fixed cables and ladders directly into the rock, known as “via ferrata,” or “iron path.”
Ascend the ‘Kaiserjager’ trail, a historical and well-equipped path used by the Austrian troops during WWI, and rebuilt as a walkable trail in their honor. Over a winding path, you then climb to the summit of Piccolo Lagazuoi (2,778m / 9,114'), the view from the top is amazing, with a unique panorama on the surrounding Dolomites, and as far as the Austrian Alps.

After lunch, discover the WWI Tunnels that literally changed the face of the mountain Lagazuoi. This remnant of the First World War leads through the famous steep winding tunnel, created by the Italian soldiers who dug through the Piccolo Lagazuoi from the bottom, to attack the Austrian soldiers occupying the summit.

Enjoy a spectacular half-day whitewater rafting on the Rienza River in the South Tyrol! As the river narrows, the drops get steeper, and rocks and boulders create waves – you can feel their force on high-volume parts of the river! That’s when the adventure begins, rafting class 2-3 white water on a 2-3 hour rafting adventure through the Val Pusteria (Puster Valley).
The experience of white water rafting in South Tyrol also means the opportunity to experience nature from a different perspective. You will be able to catch a glimpse of rare landscapes that few get the chance to see, and have the option to hop off the raft along the way and explore further.
Return transfers included.

Today you’ll hike to the Santa Croce Sanctuary at the base of the Sasso della Croce (Sass dla Crusc for the Ladin-speaking population). Hike uphill through a number of closely-knit hamlets formed of clusters of ancient shingle-roofed timber farmhouses and barns, known as viles, or small communities, characteristic of Val Badia.
It takes about two hours from San Cassiano to reach the church and sanctuary of Ospizio S. Croce (2,045m / 6,710').  There is a charming rifugio here, where you can enjoy a traditional Dolomites lunch. Don’t miss the famous Kaiserschmarren, a crepe-like pancake with powdered sugar and jam!  After lunch, return to your hotel on the same path.

In the morning enjoy a private transfer to the Cinque Torri area.
Cinque Torri, meaning "Five Towers", is a group of actually more than 5 towers that lies on the south slopes of Falzarego Pass above Cortina d'Ampezzo. It is part of the larger Averau-Nuvolau group in the Cortina Dolomites. These mountains are also home to an extensive First World War Open Air Museum.
The climbs are short - no more than 220m / 722' and the peak elevations are relatively low (around 2700m / 8860'). They are therefore ideal when time is short, for training, for beginners and kids.
At the end of your climbing day, take a chairlift ride down to the main road, and a private transfer to your accommodation.
