Dolomites Quick Getaways

Via Ferrata Getaway in Sexten & Tre Cime di Lavaredo

Experience the vertical world of the Sexten Dolomites on this five-day via ferrata getaway in the Tre Cime di Lavaredo area. Climb historic WWI routes, traverse exposed ridgelines, and sleep in high-altitude rifugios surrounded by some of the most dramatic alpine scenery in the world. But don’t take our word for it. Come and see for yourself!

Trip Overview

This Via Ferrata Getaway takes you into the vertical heart of the Eastern Dolomites. Based in the pretty village of Sesto, you'll spend five days exploring the legendary terrain surrounding the Tre Cime di Lavaredo
The Via Ferrate here are pathways through time. Many follow WWI military positions, where Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers carved tunnels and strung cables across impossible faces. You'll traverse the same galleries they used on Monte Paterno, climb iron ladders bolted into historic towers, and walk exposed ledges where the mountain war unfolded at nearly 3,000m / 9,842’.
You'll start with shorter routes like the Via Ferrata Torre Toblino, before progressing to more demanding ascents. Monte Paterno's summit at 2,744m / 9,003' offers one of the finest viewpoints in the Dolomites with the Tre Cime's north faces spread before you in all their glory.
The Sentiero degli Alpini, your final ferrata, a sustained traverse that rewards you with sweeping views across Val Fiscalina, is among the longest and most panoramic equipped paths in the Sexten Dolomites.
Experience authentic rifugio life: share tables, enjoy speck, canederli, and strudel, and witness alpenglow on dramatic walls. Sesto/Sexten combines South Tyrolean culture, Italian warmth, and Austrian alpine tradition.

Want to learn more about our Mountain Inns & Rifugios?

Rifugios – or mountain huts in English – are the classic accommodation for hikers, climbers, mountaineers, and ski mountaineers in the Alps. Set in spectacular locations high in the Dolomites, rifugios are accessible only on foot (with a few exceptions that are reachable by car). These marvelous establishments are open primarily in the summer, with a select few in winter, and offer meals and sleeping facilities. The Dolomite rifugios are considered the best in the Alps. While some are dormitory style with bunk beds, many meet the standard of a simple guest house with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and each has its own unique character and charm. Bedding and linens are provided, hot showers are available, and meals are served in common dining areas – like a small mountain inn set high in the mountains with the most incredible vistas in the Dolomites. Whether you’re hiking in summer or skiing in winter, an overnight rifugio stay is not to miss on a Dolomite holiday.
