Dolomites Rock Climbing

Sport Climbing in the Dolomites

From the iconic towers of Cinque Torri to the fortress walls of the Sella Massif, this seven-day sport climbing adventure puts two thousand pitches at your fingertips. Based in Cortina d'Ampezzo and Val di Fassa, it's the Dolomites' most varied and accessible guided rock climbing experience. Beginners are welcome!

Trip Overview

Two thousand pitches. That is, roughly, how many sport climbing routes surround Cortina d'Ampezzo alone, and it is a number that keeps growing every season. Add the Sella Towers, the fortress walls of the Sella Massif, and the crags of Val di Fassa, and you have one of the most varied, accessible, and scenically stunning sport climbing destinations.

This seven-day guided rock climbing adventure covers the very best of the Dolomites' sport crags, moving between two superb bases. You'll spend your first three days in and around Cortina, starting with the world-famous Cinque Torri, or "Five Towers," a cluster of dolomite formations rising above Passo Falzarego on the south slopes above Cortina. This is where generations of climbers have come to warm up, test themselves, and sharpen technique on routes ranging from beginner-friendly grade three to the serious 8b. The approach also takes you through the WWI trenches and the restored Grande Guerra open-air museum.

You'll explore the countless additional sport faces in the Cortina area, and on Day Four, a private transfer takes you to Val di Fassa, where the Sella Towers and the eastern Sella Massif offer a completely different climbing environment. Three little-known peaks, the Sasso delle Nove, Sass dal Diesc, and the Piz da Lec de Boe, form a natural sundial visible from Colfosco below, offering enough quality routes to fill several full seasons of climbing. We've set aside one day that's entirely yours. You might have had a specific route on your mind all week, you may want to push your grade, or you may simply want to revisit a favorite wall. Whatever your wish, your guide will make it happen!

This trip is an easy to moderate climbing level, so first-time climbers are welcome, and intermediate climbers will find plenty to push them. All climbing equipment is included, and six nights in excellent hotels in two of the Dolomites' finest resort towns ensures you recover well after each climb.

Climbing route difficulty and skill levels:
Level 1: Beginner, climbing grades 2 to 4+

About Sport Climbing: Sport climbing is the most accessible form of roped climbing and the ideal way to experience the vertical world of the Dolomites, whether you're stepping onto rock for the first time or working toward harder grades. On a sport climbing route, the protection (bolts) is already permanently fixed into the rock. You simply clip your rope into each bolt as you ascend. With typical route lengths of 15 – 40 m on a single pitch, the focus is entirely on movement, footwork, and reading the rock in front of you. Sport climbing carries a lower inherent risk than trad or multi-pitch styles, making it great for all levels.

Safety awareness & training: Adventurous activities in the mountains have their dangers. These can never be removed altogether, but they can be minimized. At Dolomite Mountains, our aim is to provide you with a thrilling holiday directed with maximum attention to your safety and that of others. We don't just blindly let you follow our experienced leaders. We give you the opportunity to learn mountain-craft skills and understand the hazards, how to minimize the risk, and how to cope with incidents should they happen.
