Trip Overview
Begin in Val Gardena, where Ladin woodcarving traditions meet the limestone skyline of the Sassolungo and Sella. A cable car carries you to the Alpe di Siusi for a hike across open, snow-covered pasture, with mountain huts and sweeping views along the way. Hike beneath the serrated Odle peaks and pause for a warming break before returning to the valley.
You'll continue by private transfer to Alta Badia, where you'll cross the broad Pralongià plateau on a point-to-point winter hike, then follow a winter route beneath the Santa Croce massif to a mountain sanctuary. Between hikes, discover the valley's Ladin heritage and stop for delicious local specialties in cozy traditional mountain huts. On the way to Cortina d'Ampezzo, you'll walk through the forest beneath Tofana di Rozes and onward to Monte Piana, where the remains of the World War I front share a remarkable setting with breathtaking views toward the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. More than simply a hiking itinerary, this journey offers a varied introduction to the Dolomites in winter: sweeping high-altitude plateaus, dramatic limestone peaks, peaceful forests, Ladin culture, local cuisine, and fascinating history. If weather and snow conditions permit, you can finish your winter adventure with a snow-sledge descent toward Misurina.
