Led by a local English-speaking UIAGM / IFMGA professional Mountain Guide, this moderate-to-challenging journey combines stunning mountain scenery with three consecutive nights in traditional Alpine rifugios. Designed for experienced, active travelers seeking a deeper winter adventure in the Dolomites, the itinerary begins with arrival in Cortina d'Ampezzo before heading into the mountains for three days of exceptional snowshoeing.
You'll follow a rewarding route through the picturesque landscapes surrounding Cortina, from Bai de Dones up through the Cinque Torri area, climbing towards the peaks of the Averau group. The panorama opens as you gain altitude, and by the time you reach your first rifugio, you're embraced by the full sweep of the Ampezzo Dolomites in winter silence. Along the way, you'll stay overnight in welcoming rifugios, adding an authentic dimension to the adventure, with warm hospitality, delicious regional cuisine, and the rare opportunity to experience the mountains after the day's visitors have departed.

Rifugios – or mountain huts in English – are the classic accommodations for hikers, climbers, mountaineers, and ski mountaineers in the Alps. Set in spectacular locations high in the Dolomites, rifugios are accessible only on foot (with a few exceptions that are reachable by car). These marvelous establishments are open primarily in the summer, with a select few open in winter, and they offer meals and sleeping facilities. While some are dormitory style with bunk beds, many meet the standard of a simple guest house with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and each has its own unique character and charm.
