Val d'Ega Winter Hiking Getaway

Make Val d'Ega home for a five-day winter hiking getaway in the Dolomites. Discover the quiet beauty of South Tyrol in winter as you walk from Nova Ponente to a frescoed chapel, follow woodland trails from Lake Carezza / Karersee, and hike beneath the Catinaccio / Rosengarten peaks. Three hikes and four nights from a single base, made for travelers seeking an active winter beyond the ski slopes.

Trip Overview

Prepare for a magical getaway in Val d'Ega / Eggental and discover just how many sides of winter this South Tyrolean valley can show you: village life, a protected frozen mountain lake, and the lush forests below the Catinaccio / Rosengarten.
This five-day Dolomites winter hiking getaway is based entirely in the Nova Ponente / Deutschnofen area, a peaceful base for a winter walking holiday in the Dolomites, no skiing required. You'll arrive, settle into the peaceful surroundings, and spend your days exploring different corners of the valley. The first hike takes you along prepared paths through snowy fields and woodlands, leading to St. Helena, a quaint Romanesque chapel adorned with frescoes from around 1400. The return loop allows you to experience the local farms and sunlit meadows in the surrounding area.
You'll travel to Lake Carezza / Karersee, a protected natural monument and a frozen winter wonderland beneath the Latemar, and then venture into the forest on a longer winter hike toward a cozy mountain rifugio for a delicious South Tyrolean lunch.
Your final hike turns toward the Catinaccio / Rosengarten, following the prepared winter route through the woods with stunning views opening toward the snow-dusted peaks along the way.
Prepared winter trails can normally be walked in suitable winter boots, although conditions can require traction devices or a changed route. Choose a guided trip with three days of local hiking guidance or travel self-guided with itinerary logistics.
