Trip Overview
Your first three nights are in Val d'Ega / Eggental, between the Latemar and Catinaccio / Rosengarten mountains. From Nova Ponente / Deutschnofen, you'll walk a loop through farmland and forest toward St. Helena, a small chapel with 15th-century Gothic interior frescoes.
The next day starts at Lake Carezza / Karersee, where the protected lakeshore opens toward the Latemar before your route heads into the woods for a traditional mountain-hut stop. These first days let you settle into the rhythm of winter hiking in the Dolomites.
Then you'll change hotels and hiking areas. A private transfer brings you toward Castelrotto / Kastelruth, where the Laranz Forest leads to the Königswarte viewpoint over the Eisack Valley and the Renon plateau. You'll ascend to the Alpe di Siusi / Seiser Alm and hike across the Bullaccia / Puflatsch plateau, with the Sciliar / Schlern rising to the south and views toward the Ortler Group and the glaciers of the Stubai, Ötztal, and Zillertal Alps. Along the way you'll pass the Panche delle Streghe, the "witches' benches," a rock formation tied to the old legends of the Sciliar witches. As you follow the prepared winter route above the plateau, you'll notice the transition from the dense forest canopy to a wide-open panorama.
With moderate elevation gains, longer walking days, and spectacular mountain scenery, this itinerary is ideal for active travelers looking for a rewarding winter experience in the Dolomites. Choose a local guide to escort you, or a self-guided version with trip logistics.
