Milan Extension: The Milan Experience

Explore Milan – from the high art of the renaissance to high fashion on the runway – and discover an incredible combination of heritage and history set within a modern, cosmopolitan way of life.

Trip Overview

In Milan, it’s all about appearance… Whether it’s the façade of the Duomo, the fashion on display in the Quadrilatero d'Oro, or the sets at the Teatro alla Scala opera house, you’ll find the visual appeal of Milan everywhere you turn in this majestic city!
Milan is the marketplace for Italian fashion, and a major world fashion and design capital.
But beyond the allure of fashion and design, Milan is the main financial, industrial, commercial, center of Italy, as well as a leading global city. This should come as no surprise, as the city is located in a key position on the trade routes that linked Rome with northwestern Europe, which ensured its continued prosperity throughout history. Today its business district hosts Italy's main stock exchange, the Borsa Italiana, and the headquarters of Italy’s largest national banks and companies.
But don’t let all this modernity fool you – Milan is actually one of the most ancient cities in Europe, with more than 26 centuries of history and heritage. Its fame is due in part to its wealth of historical sights: the Duomo, one of the biggest and grandest Gothic cathedrals in the world; La Scala, one of the best established opera houses on the globe; the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, an ancient and glamorous arcaded shopping gallery; the Brera art gallery, with some of the finest artistic works in Europe; the Castello Sforzesco, a grand medieval castle; and the Santa Maria alle Grazie Basilica ("Holy Mary of Grace"), a church and Dominican convent, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing one of the world's most famous paintings: Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper.
Partly destroyed by Second World War bomb raids, Milan has reinvented itself, becoming a unique combination of ancient and modern.  This thriving cosmopolitan business and fashion capital has retained the integrity of its heritage and glorious history, which as with everything here, are all proudly on display.

About Dolomite Mountains Extensions

Italy and her surroundings are brimming with opportunities for adventure… so why not add a few days to your trip and explore beyond the Dolomites? Our trip extensions range from one-day tours (great as a transition to help you recover from jet lag) to multi-day trips. You might even feel like you’re on a second vacation! Each extension is crafted to help you experience a region in a short amount of time. We can arrange guided tours and activities, museum and performance tickets, and dining recommendations and reservations… or if you prefer, simply arrange your accommodation and leave you on your own to explore each day… It’s the perfect way to add a little extra adventure to your holiday!  We put all of the same care and knowledge into our extension itineraries that we use in crafting our itineraries within the Dolomites – authentic experiences, expert local guides, and best-in-class accommodations, and of course the exceptional level of service you’ve come to expect from Dolomite Mountains.
