Milan Extension: The Milan Experience

Explore Milan for four days and discover an incredible combination of heritage and history set within a modern, cosmopolitan way of life. Enjoy a day with a personal shopper, visit world-class monuments and museums, and relax canal-side, soaking up the fabulous Navigli aperitivo evenings.

Trip Overview

In Milan, it isn't all about appearance, as one might think when conjuring up the usual images of this famous city. Yes, between the grand gothic facade of the Duomo, the high fashion on display in the Quadrilatero d'Oro, and the elaborate sets at the Teatro alla Scala opera house, you'll find visual appeal everywhere you turn. This makes perfect sense for the marketplace of Italian fashion and a major world design capital. But look beyond this stylish surface, and you'll discover a city of immense depth. It is the main financial, industrial, and commercial center of Italy, and today its bustling business district hosts the country's main stock exchange and the headquarters of Italy's largest national banks.
But do not let all this modernity fool you. Milan is actually one of the most ancient cities in Europe, with more than twenty-six centuries of history. Its fame is due in part to its wealth of historical sights: the Duomo, one of the biggest cathedrals in the world; La Scala, one of the best-established opera houses on the globe; the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, a glamorous arcaded shopping gallery; the Brera art gallery; the Castello Sforzesco, a grand medieval castle; and the Santa Maria alle Grazie Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper.
Partly destroyed by Second World War bomb raids, Milan has reinvented itself, becoming a unique combination of ancient and modern. This thriving cosmopolitan business and fashion capital has retained the integrity of its heritage and glorious history, all proudly on display. And when the workday ends, the city's social heart beats along the historic Navigli canals, the epicenter of Milan's legendary aperitivo culture, where locals gather at vibrant waterside bars for cocktails and gourmet bites. Add a little extra adventure to your vacation and discover the magic of Milan!
