Trip Overview

Join us on an unforgettable week-long, multi-sport journey deep into the heart of the Dolomites, beginning and ending in Val Badia, one of South Tyrol’s most picturesque valleys. Nestled between dramatic limestone peaks and having a rich Ladin culture, Val Badia is the perfect gateway to explore this UNESCO World Heritage site.

Your adventure begins in the Puez-Odle Natural Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the geological heart of the Dolomites. You’ll start with a hike from the pretty town of La Villa, where you’ll ride the Gardenaccia chairlift and begin with a steep ascent on Mount Gardenaccia with spectacular views over Val Gardena and the jagged Odle peaks, ending in the high mountain villages of Corvara and Colfosco. From Corvara, hike through the dramatic Val di Mesdì beneath the awe-inspiring Dent de Mezdì (2,881m / 9,452'). Your overnight destination is a panoramic rifugio tucked high on the northern terraces of the Sella Massif, beside a shimmering turquoise alpine lake. You'll also climb the iconic Via Ferrata Tridentina, crossing waterfalls and a breathtaking suspension bridge that ends right at the rifugio.

The next day, tackle the most rewarding ascent of the journey: the summit of Piz Boé (3,152m / 10,341'), the highest peak in the Sella Group. After savoring a 360° view of the Dolomites from its summit, descend steep scree slopes and traverse alpine meadows toward the Pralongià Plateau and the grassy ridgelines of the Setsass mountains, culminating at the foot of Mount Lagazuoi. An overnight stay at one of the highest rifugios in the Dolomites, offers amazing views and access to preserved WWI tunnels.

A torch-lit exploration of these wartime caves at Piccolo Lagazuoi sets the tone for your final day: a scenic descent past a lake, followed by a climb into Val di Fanes, a marmot-filled valley at the edge of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Natural Park. Via Ferrata Tomaselli offers you one last vertical thrill, with an exposed ascent of Punta Fanes Sud on one of the Dolomites' most technical and beautiful via ferratas.

Throughout the trip, you’ll get to experience three nights in welcoming rifugios, where you’ll enjoy traditional Ladin cuisine and spectacular stargazing! So, if you’re looking for a challenge, this itinerary combines scenic trekking, via ferrata adventures, and rich local heritage in one of Italy’s most stunning alpine regions. Want to learn more about our Mountain Inns & Rifugios?
Rifugios – or mountain huts in English – are the classic accommodation for hikers, climbers, mountaineers, and ski mountaineers in the Alps. Set in spectacular locations high in the Dolomites, rifugios are accessible only on foot (with a few exceptions that are reachable by car). These marvelous establishments are open primarily in the summer, with a select few in winter, and offer meals and sleeping facilities.

The Dolomite rifugios are considered the best in the Alps. While some are dormitory style with bunk beds, many meet the standard of a simple guest house with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and each has its own unique character and charm. Bedding and linens are provided, hot showers are available, and meals are served in common dining areas – like a small mountain inn set high in the mountains with the most incredible vistas in the Dolomites. Whether you’re hiking in summer or skiing in winter, an overnight rifugio stay is not to miss on a Dolomite holiday.
