DOLOMITES

Because  Olympic fever will be over by spring, Cortina d'Ampezzo (aka Queen of the Dolomites) will have been all spruced up, and you can again explore some of the most dramatic mountain landscapes in the world: 10,000-foot limestone peaks that glow pink at sunset (the enrosadira), with webs of well-marked trails for hiking and for climbing WWI-era via ferratas.  Details  You'll be pampered.  Still,  one of the oldest hotels in Cortina (1826), is fabulous again;  Crystal  (1901) is reopening soon as a Mandarin Oriental.
