In 2009, Italy’s Dolomite Mountains were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for their outstanding natural beauty and their global geological significance. The nine mountain groups of the Dolomites, from the Marmolada massif to the Brenta Dolomites, span five provinces across northeastern Italy – a landscape that was shaped over some 250 million years.
